Leaving the trail-head from Homestake Road, the 2.5 mile hike to Whitney Lake is both rugged and beautiful. During the elevation gain of 1,836', you hike through aspen and conifer groves. Frequent open meadows provide views of the Sawatch Range. At end is picturesque alpine lake with Whitney Peak reflecting on the water is a great place for lunch.
