"Standing Out in a Crowd"
Rialto Beach, Washington
2003
Rialto Beach is one of many beautiful beaches along the Olympic Peninsula near Forks, Washington. The beach is composed of tiny pebbles smoothed by the tides. While walking along the beach toward the Hole in the Wall monolith, we picked up driftwood and rocks. The contrast of the larger oval rock against the small, dark pebbles was stunning, and not unlike the difference between the depressed Indian village of La Push and the town of Forks. Large sea stacks silhouetted against the calm Pacific Ocean provided outstanding vistas at sunset.
