Hibiscus
Delphi, Indiana
2007
A member of the mallow family, the trumpet-shaped hibiscus has five vivid red petals. The yellow anthers of the stamen are loaded with pollen ready to fertilize the lobed stigma of the pistil. Veins within the petals are visible thanks to the backdrop of diffused sunlight. Mottled green leaves provide a stunning contrast to one of nature's beauties.
