Hidden Cistern in San Gimignano, G6419
“Hidden Cistern in San Gimignano”
San Gimignano, Italy
2015
A secluded cistern stands nobly beneath a stairway adorned with medieval frescoes. Built in 1361, the cistern bears the coat of arm of the ruling Alberti family. The cistern provided water for those who lived near the Town Hall, which was built in 1320. Today, the courtyard steps lead to the Civic Museum of San Gimignano.
