The Old World

The Eilean Donan Castle in the Scottish Highlands was first built in the mid 13th century. The castle is situated on an Island at a point where three great sea lochs meet. Over the years, four different versions have been built. After major destruction during the Jacobite uprising in 1719, it laid in ruins for nearly 200 years. A restoration process began in 1911 after Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island. The castle was re-opened in 1932.
