Auchindoun Castle, Ca1905
Thomas Cochrane probably built Auchindoun Castle in the mid to late 1400’s. He was employed by the unpopular King James III to control the earldom of Mar. Nobles hanged Cochrane in 1482 during a plot to unseat the king. Due to the Catholic/Protestant rivalry, Auchindoun was attacked and burned in the late 1500’s and laid derelict by 1725.
