In the late 1800's, gold was discovered in the upper Roaring Fork valley high up in the Colorado Mountains. According to legend, prospectors discovered gold on Independence Day. At one point, the town's population grew to around 1,500. All that remains today are a few of the log structures that provide a ghostly reminder of its former mining glory days.
