A 1.8 mile hike from Bear Lake trailhead will take you by Nymph Lake, on past beautiful Dream Lake, and finally up to Emerald Lake. A 1.8 mile hike from Bear Lake trailhead will take you by Nymph Lake, on past beautiful Dream Lake, and finally up to Emerald Lake. Emerald Lake is closely flanked by Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain. The spires of the mountains reminded me of the pinnacles of the fictional Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz. The rise is so dramatic that I found it difficult to capture it all even with my wide-angle lens. A waterfall across the lake creates lovely sound to add to this scene. This is a great hike for us flatlanders to get use to the high altitude.
