One would be hard pressed to find a hike that is better than the Missouri Lakes Trail. The first three miles or so take you up through a wonderful forest with Missouri Creek cascading down and an occasional meadow that makes you stop and mentally absorb your surroundings. The first three miles or so take you up through a wonderful forest with Missouri Creek cascading down and an occasional meadow that makes you stop and mentally absorb your surroundings. The big reward arises when you reach the lakes. The basin in which the Missouri Lakes sit are surrounded by mountains. The lighting on the mountains is constantly changing due to the patches of clouds passing overhead. You sit down for some lunch and contemplate. An occasional hiker passes by and you strike up a conversation. You realize you have a similar attitude. The decision to make this hike was a good one.
