Hiking in Turkey Run State is one of my favorite escapes. I particularly enjoy the place where the large expanse of Rocky Hollow narrows considerably into a small slot in the sandstone walls. Here one can observe the work of young men employed by a New Deal program called the Civilian Conservation Corps, or CCC. Each time I visit, I try to imagine the hard work that these desperate, depression-era men carried out on the park's numerous trails. Decades later, we are the benefactors of their labors.
