About the prints

All color photos are produced by the IlfochromeTM Classic Deluxe process or by a Chromira printer on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper. Both processes produce a high quality image commonly seen in fine art galleries. The image that created is far more reflective and brilliant than standard color prints. Compare some examples of the same image done with the standard method with that of the Chromira or Ilfochrome.

The Chromira prints start with a Tango drum scan of the transparency. The 100 MB scan is then worked on in “Photoshop” for any dogging, burning, or contrast alterations needed. This would be similar to the work done in the traditional darkroom. At this point, the image is sent to the lab to be digitally printed as a test print. When a satisfactory print has been achieved, then the final print is produced. The digital enlarger uses LEDs to print on the Fuji Crystal Archive Paper. These prints are rated to last over 60 years.

Ilfochrome prints are made directly from the original transparencies. This creates a sharp image that has very rich colors. The archival qualities of the metallic dyes are excellent and are able to last for many years if stored correctly. This process is becoming rarer because of the use of digital imaging and new images are not printed any longer.

The prints are mounted and matted on acid-free materials. The matte is museum quality rag board. Each print is then numbered, titled, and signed. If framing is requested, a metal frame with glass will be used. Please do not hesitate to make contact for pricing and other options.

Black & White photos are produced on 11 x 14 inch fiber based paper and are selenium toned for archival purposes. Each piece is produced one at a time in a traditional darkroom thus creating individually unique prints. The technique that is used to print the images is called split–grade printing. This is a very laborious technique; however it helps to create the best contrast control for the entire print. Each print is mounted, double matted, and signed using only archival materials at a cost of $125. If a frame is added, an additional $50 will be added.
